University of Rhode Island MTH243: Multivariable Calculus
Summer 2019

Images and other neat stuff

On this page I have placed various documents pertaining to the course. These include handouts, images of graphs discussed in class and other things.

05/20: I sketched the graph of \(f(x,y)=x^2 - y^2\).

  • Here is a Mathematica picture of the graph...
  • ...and here is the cross-section with the plane \(x=1\).
  • ...and here is the cross-section with the plane \(y=-1\).
Here are the handouts: Examples of Functions of Two Variables and Numerical values for the graph of \(f(x,y) = x^2 - y^2\).

05/21: This shows the intersection of the graph of \(f(x,y) = x^2 - y^2\) with the plane \(z=0\), showing that the contour is as calculated in class. Here is Handout 3, with the solutions added in.

05/22: This is the image of the level sets for \(c=-1\), \(c=0\) and \(c=1\) for \(f(x,y,z) = x^2 + y^2 - z^2\).
