Biography

Lubos Thoma is an associate professor at the Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematical Sciences, University of Rhode Island. He obtained his Ph.D. in 1996 from Emory University. Before coming to URI, he was a post-doc at DIMACS, a member at the Institute for Advanced Study, and a Zeev Nehari visiting assistant professor at Carnegie Mellon University. His current research interests include graph and hypergraph theory, probabilistic methods, data science, and their applications. He was awarded external, NSF, and internal grants to support his research.

Lubos Thoma has served on the graduate committee since 2002, graduate council (2013-2016), multiple committees in the data science program (2012-2025), and as the graduate director in mathematics (2021-2026).
