Biography

Alyson Jantzen is an Associate Teaching Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematical Sciences at the University of Rhode Island, where she also earned both her undergraduate and graduate degrees.  Prior to joining the department, she taught mathematics at the high school level for over a decade, instructing courses such as Algebra I and II, Geometry, Precalculus, College Mathematics, and Statistics. 

Her practicum research includes supporting student success in mathematics, particularly in understanding and addressing failure and dropout rates, as well as easing the transition from high school to college-level mathematics.

At the University of Rhode Island, she teaches a range of undergraduate courses, including MTH 208 and 209 (Numeracy for Teachers I and II) and MTH 103 (Applied Precalculus).  She also serves as the course coordinator for Applied Precalculus and as an active member of the Undergraduate Committee.

Outside of her professional work, Alyson enjoys traveling and spending time with her family.
