Biography

Araceli Bonifant, Ph.D., is a Professor of Mathematics at University of Rhode Island. Her research focuses primarily on complex dynamics in one and higher dimensions, with additional interests in problems involving geometric, algebraic, and topological methods. Her main research areas include the dynamics of cubic polynomials, rational maps on the real and complex projective plane, and rational maps that commute with the antipodal map.

She has published numerous research papers in prestigious mathematical journals and has established an international reputation in the field of complex dynamics. In addition, she has edited three scholarly books—two published by American Mathematical Society and one by Princeton University Press.

Professor Bonifant has co-organized 11 highly successful conferences in Complex Dynamics at both the national and international levels, several of which attracted more than 100 participants. She successfully secured conference grants to support each of these events. She has also delivered numerous invited presentations and lectures on her research throughout the United States and internationally.

At the University of Rhode Island, she teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in pure mathematics and has mentored students at both the Ph.D. and master’s levels. Beyond her research and teaching, she has contributed extensively to academic service. She served for approximately eight years on the Arts & Sciences Curriculum Committee and currently serves as a member of the Graduate Council. She is also an active participant in several departmental committees.
