Calendar and Syllabus

CALENDAR and SYLLABUS

Your instructor may assign some of the sections for you to read, and only answer questions in class. Some sections may be throughly covered in class. All of the sections are required and will be included in their corresponding exams. Your instructor may choose to collect suggested practice problems as homework, or may not. In any event, you should attempt all the problems and seek help if you can't solve them.

Evening Exams and the Final

Our evening exams are scheduled from 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm on the following Wednesdays: Feb.20, Apr.3, May 1, in Chafee 271. The time and location of the final exam will be announced in class and on this page.

WeBWorK

We shall be using a newly-developed computerized homework system called WeBWorK. You will access your WeBWorK homework assignments through the link below or through the link on top of this page.

WEBWORK LOGIN PAGE

Your instructor will tell you in class how to log into the system. When you work on your homework problems, the system will tell you if your answers are correct or not. Most of the time, you will be allowed several attempts before electronically submitting your final answers. You will find that the system is user friendly and forgiving. WeBWorK is designed to make learning more convenient and efficient.

Grading

Your grade will be based upon your percentage of the following 700 points:

Three evening exams 300 points
Final exam 200 points
WeBWorK assignments 100 points
Instructor's assignments 100 points

As you see, 100 points are at the discretion of your instructor. Your instructor may require that you spend some time in the CyberLab, working on the Internet materials. Your instructor may include any, or some, of the following: labwork, quizzes, homework from the text, attendance.

You must attend classes in order to derive the full benefit from the course. Hence, attendance may be kept.

Internet Materials

Below is a link to an extensive library of on-line quizzes and learning materials. They provide you with additional ways to practice during the semester and before each exam. If you need help with some quizzes, you can find it at the Math CyberLab. Your instructor may require that you spend some time working on those materials, and make them part of your work. You can accsess the Lab page through the link below or through the link on top of this page.
