This course will revisit the fundamental ideas of calculus, especially calculus of several variables, at greater depth, and will make connections with other mathematical areas as well as with problems in physics and engineering.
We will cover most of chapters 1 through 4 during the first semester, with Chapter 1 mainly a review. Problems will be assigned in class with periodic problem sets to be handed in. The problems chosen will generally not be the simple calculations you were asked to do in MTH 243. There will also be some problems to be solved using Mathematica.
