Another important and effective error-detecting code is the
International Standard Book Number (ISBN). There are two types of ISBNs.
The older one is a 10-digit code and newer one is a 13-digit code. 10-digit and 13-digit
error checking scheme are different and have different properties.
Two types of common errors are single-digit errors and adjacent transposition errors. A third
common error is where two numbers are transposed and not adjacent. Such errors are called jump transposition errors and multiplication by 13 schemes will detect such errors.
