Math 243 will cover coordinates for space vector geometry, partial derivatives, directional derivatives, extrema, Lagrange multipliers, and multiple integrals.

Two exams worth 100 points and a final exam worth 150 points.
A..100%-90%
B..89%-80%
C..79%-70%
D..69%-60%
F..59%-0%Homework/Quizzes:Homework will be assigned after each chapter. Each day we will spend time going over homework problems. You are responsible for all problems assigned, see Course Calendar for a list of problems associated with each chapter. Quizzes will be given on every Wednesday in the weeks without exams. Quiz problems are from homework problems and examples given in class with number changes. There are no makeup quizzes. I'll drop one quiz grade.
Maple Projects:We will continue our work with Maple. The Maple projects are created to help you learn new concepts. Maple is very useful in visualizing graphs and surfaces in three dimensions. Below are the links for the Maple worksheets for MTH 243. To open the worksheets you need a copy of the Maple software on the computer you are working on. Maple is available in all URI computer labs and in Tyler Hall 101. Assistants are available for Tyler Hall 101. Total points 100. Use the web for help with Maple commands, Google --> Maple Commands
Attendance:Because of the high level of knowledge that will be imparted and assessed during class time, attendance is highly recommended. Make-up Exams:Makeup exams will only be given to students with an acceptable excuse. The only acceptable excuses, religious holy day, family emergency, school sponsored event, job interviews, or sickness. All absences require documentation. For example, sickness, a doctor's excuse. You must let me know before the exam that you will not be able to take the exam in order to be given a makeup exam. All other absences will be given a zero for that exam. No exceptions! Makeup exams will be given at a time that is convenient for both you and me. Miscellaneous:Research has shown that the learning process is greatly enhanced when students help each other. On the other hand, I do not want you to find the best student in the class and simply copy off of him/her. If you are having trouble, please don't hesitate to come and see me right away. If you are having trouble and don't take care of it, your problems will only get worse. I can assure you of this. Any student who, because of a disability, may require some special arrangements in order to meet course requirements should contact me as soon as possible to make necessary accommodations. |
