Course Description

Math 108 is a general survey math course intended for students whose majors have only a general educational requirement in mathematics. This course has no prerequisites beyond college admission standards. Content will vary from semester to semester and from instructor to instructor. In this section we will cover some topics in the mathematics of social choice (voting, fair division, apportionment), the mathematics of management science (routing problems, networks, scheduling), and the mathematics of symmetry and patterns.

Required Text

The required text for the class is "Excursions in Modern Mathematics" 6th edition, Peter Tannenbaum, Pearson/Prentice-Hall, 2007. ISBN 0 1323 1913 6. A basic feature calculator (add, subtract, multiply, divide, square-root) is recommended.

Students with special requirements and proper documentation through Disability Services should inform their instructor as early as possible.
