Mathlets

You may find the following applets useful.

Maple Worksheets

Maple is a great tool for visualizing multivariable calculus concepts as most of the time their geometrical interpretation is in the 3D space. Below are links to a couple of Maple worksheets that will help you get started with Maple for multivariable calculus.

Each Maple worksheet is posted in two forms: as an interactive worksheet with the extension 'mw', say, graphs_m12.mw, and in the non-interactive 'html' form. The 'mw' worksheets have been created in Maple 12 so you may not be able to open them in earlier versions of Maple.

To download an interactive worksheet, right-click on it, go to 'Save Link As' and save it with the extension 'mw', say, 'graphs_m12.mw'. Or left-click on it and save what ever opens as say, 'graphs_m12.mw'. Once you save a 'mw' file, open it in Maple.

Illness Due to Flu

The H1N1 Flu Pandemic may impact classes this semester. If any of us develop flu-like symptoms, we are being advised to stay home until the fever has subsided for 24 hours. So, if you exhibit such symptoms, please do not come to class. Notify your instructor of your status via email, and we will work together to ensure that course instruction and work is completed for the semester.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have posted simple methods to avoid transmission of illness. These include: covering your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing; frequently washing your hands to protect from germs; avoiding touching your eyes, nose and mouth; and staying home when you are sick. For more information, please view http://www.cdc.gov/flu/protect/habits.htm . URI information on the H1N1 will be posted on the URI website at www.uri.edu/news/h1n1.html with links to http://www.cdc.gov site.
